It was in 2003 that the Human Genome Project succeeded in one of its greatest explorations: the attempt to read the human body’s complete genetic blueprint. It was a roaring success as it could map and sequence approximately 20,000 genes of human DNA. This significant breakthrough has made it possible to uncover a large amount of information regarding a person’s physiology, be it their susceptibility to certain diseases or response to specific drugs.

But the growth and scope of genetic testing have been sluggish ever since. The reason is its lack of a thoroughgoing approach. For instance, let’s say a person has to check the susceptibility toward Alzheimer’s. The standard DNA test would only analyze the genes associated with Alzheimer’s, disregarding the rest of the genes and diseases. It would require separate tests to check for gene mutations related to other diseases—making DNA testing fragmented and costintensive. But what if there was one platform that could analyze all the 20,000 plus genes, access the inborn traits, and cross-reference the genes to most of the diseases known to humans, all at once? That’s where Predictiv is breaking new ground in healthcare.

The inventiveness of Predictiv starts right from the genomics company’s DNA sample collection. Predictiv employs a non-invasive and easy DNA sample collection by collecting a fingernail clipping from the clients through a testing kit sent to them; no phlebotomist is needed to collect a blood sample or saliva swab. Predictiv then extracts DNA information from this sample by leveraging next-generation sequencing—the most advanced, accurate, affordable, and faster technique than the other sequencing technologies. But the real magic happens after that. With the DNA information, Predictiv collates the patient’s medical history, family history, and lifestyle habits to create a digital blueprint of the person—a digital genetic twin. Predictiv cross-references this digital twin to a database of over 22,000 diseases and 780 plus drugs to determine whether the individual in question is prone to one or more diseases or is likely to suffer complications from using certain medications.

“We are like the Google search engine for your DNA. You can easily find out what all diseases you are susceptible to and what all are the high-risk drugs for your body’s genetic composition with a few clicks,” states Sajung Yun, co-founder and CEO of Predictiv.

Once the insights are drawn, Predictiv’s partnered genetic counselors also relay the results back to the individual and help them set up a personalized preventive plan. Each individual is provided access to a digital dashboard of their digital twin that breaks down the test results and acts as a personal medical hub that they or their doctor can refer.
Predictiv users even have access to a digital care concierge team that can resolve any queries.

The Roots of Excellence

It all started as a very personal endeavor for Yun. When his father got diagnosed with rare cancer, Yun and his twin brother, Sijung Yun—being DNA experts—decided to analyze their father’s DNA. When they realized that cancer could have actually been predicted and thus prevented, the Yun brothers set out on a mission to develop a platform that could give people a chance to understand their genetic profile and the chronic conditions they are prone to before they would succumb to them. It resulted in the culmination of Predictiv. While the platform can be used by healthcare workers today to make early diagnoses and provide optimal drug doses and recommendations, patients can use it to stay well-informed about their health. The platform can even provide symptombased information retrieval. This simply means, through the platform, a person can get the most relevant genetic information associated with their symptoms, such as irregular heartbeats or hypertension.

Treading ahead, Predictiv’s platform is only going to get better as it can be seamlessly integrated into the network of a 3D virtual world, metaverse. In the future, Predictiv would be able to add the digital twin into the metaverse world, enabling people’s DNA analyzing and monitoring in real-time with wearable integrations. This would be a major game-changer in the healthcare domain, according to Yun. “Five years down the line, there will be two types of patients—ones with their digital twins built and others without them,” he notes. “The patients with digital twins will be able to simulate the drug action in their digital twins before taking any medication, avoiding any complications associated with it. That’s the future of healthcare, and we are bringing it today.”
